Privacy Policy

In short: This website sets no cookies, uses no tracking or analytics tools and loads no content from third-party servers (no Google Fonts, no embedded videos, no social media plugins). Only the technically necessary server logs are recorded by the web host.

This is an English translation provided for convenience. Only the German version (Datenschutzerklärung) is legally binding.

2. Hosting and server logs

This website is hosted by STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. When you visit the site, the server automatically records information that your browser transmits. This includes:

IP address
date and time of access
page or file requested
referrer URL (the previously visited page)
browser and operating system used

This data is technically necessary to deliver the site and to ensure the security and stability of the server. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure and functioning website). The data is not combined with other data sources and is deleted or anonymized by STRATO after a short time. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with STRATO.

3. No cookies, no tracking

This website does not use cookies. No analytics, advertising or tracking services are used. All fonts, images and scripts are loaded directly from this server. There is one exception: if you hide the “We need you” notice on the home page with the ×, or if you successfully submit the form on the Contribute printer data page, your browser remembers this in its local storage (localStorage, entry 3mf-teaser-hidden) – in both cases only so the notice stays hidden afterwards. This entry stays on your device, is not sent to the server and can be deleted in your browser settings.

4. Displaying the current program version

To always show the latest version on the site, this server regularly asks GitHub for the current release. No data about you is transmitted to GitHub in the process: the request is made by the web server alone, and the response is cached there. Your browser does not connect to GitHub for this.

5. Downloads via GitHub

The program files are provided on GitHub. Only when you click “Download” or another GitHub link does your browser connect to the servers of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Among other things, your IP address and technical browser data are transmitted to GitHub. GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can find more information in GitHub's privacy statement.

6. Links to Discord and Bluesky

This site links to the project's Discord server and Bluesky profile. These are simple links, not embedded content. Data is only transmitted to these services once you click a link. From then on, the respective provider's privacy policy applies:

7. Contact by email

If you send me an email, I process your details (email address, name and message content) only to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your request relates to a contract. The data is deleted once the request has been dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply.

8. Printer compatibility form

On the Contribute printer data page you can submit responses from your 3D printer (Klipper/Moonraker, OctoPrint, Prusa with PrusaLink or Bambu Lab). The purpose is to improve the printer compatibility of the 3MF Katalog Manager.

Data: details about your printer (model, firmware), the printer responses you paste (they may contain file names of your prints, which you can hide with one click beforehand), for Prusa and Bambu Lab your answers to the multiple-choice questions (e.g. which mode is switched on at the printer), optional notes and an optional contact (email address or Discord name). For technical reasons, the hosting provider's server also records your IP address, as with every page visit (see section 2).
Keys, access codes and passwords: you only enter the OctoPrint API key so that the links on the page work. It is only used in HTTPS links. It stays in your browser, is not sent to this website and is not stored by it either. The same applies to your printer's address and the file name in the fields of step 1. Passwords (Prusa), LAN access codes and serial numbers (Bambu Lab) do not belong in the form. If they or an API key still appear in a pasted response or in your notes, the page replaces them with “[entfernt]” (“removed”) in your browser before sending. The server removes them a second time before the email is sent.
Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing info@3mfkatalog.de. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
Processing: Your submission is sent directly as an email to info@3mfkatalog.de. Form contents and attachments are only sent via email and are not stored on the web server. To ensure IT security and prevent abuse (e.g. spam), we process pseudonymous metadata based on Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest): This includes counters per client identifier (HMAC of the IP address using a secret key; no plain-text IP) and submission fingerprints (content hashes to detect duplicate submissions). This data is used for 24 hours and is then deleted during the next automatic cleanup. Technical error events without personal data (no IP address, no content) are logged in the hosting provider’s server error log. The email itself is stored in the mailbox at STRATO (see section 2 and the data processing agreement mentioned there).
Retention: the email is kept until it has been evaluated and deleted after 12 months at the latest. Technical values (e.g. version numbers, filament usage, print status) are reused in the project as test data, without file names and without contact details. They can then no longer be linked to a person.

9. Bug report form

On the Report a bug page you can report a bug in the 3MF Katalog Manager, without an account and anonymously if you like. The purpose is to find and fix bugs in the application.

Data: your description of what happened, the app version and operating system, optionally the exact version of your system, steps to reproduce it, what you expected instead, a screenshot, a log file if you attach one (anonymized by the app beforehand; you see its content before saving), and an email address for follow-up questions. The email also includes the page's language and the time it was submitted. A screenshot and a log file are held only briefly in memory during the transfer and are not stored on the web server. For technical reasons, the hosting provider's server also records your IP address, as with every page visit (see section 2).

10. SSL/TLS encryption

For security reasons, this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by “https://” and the lock icon in your browser's address bar.

11. Your rights

You have the right at any time to:

access to your stored data (Art. 15 GDPR)
rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR)
restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
object to processing based on a legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR)

12. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority if you believe that the processing of your data violates the GDPR. 13. Note on the software

This privacy policy applies to the website. The 3MF Katalog Manager desktop application itself works locally on your computer. Your catalog is not transmitted to me or to third parties.
